Seniors in Service
Saves TaxpaYers Millions Annually
The
Senior Companion Program is a terrific value for society. For each
low-income person kept out of a nursing home, the savings to
taxpayers exceeds $69,000 per year. The average cost of
nursing home placement in the Tampa Bay area has reached $75,000 per
year.
Senior
Companions allow elders to stay in the homes, where they desperately
want to be, for as long as possible. These dedicated volunteers
provide companionship, as well as help with household tasks.
For more information, read about our
Senior Companion
Program.
Without the help of their
Senior Companion, 500 frail, homebound elders would be moved to a
nursing home TODAY. As a taxpayer, you should be thankful for the
Senior Companion Program and its 150 dedicated volunteers.

How to
Stay Young |
Mind
Teasers
These
simple questions are harder than you think. They
demonstrate how little we pay attention to the common things
in life. Put on your thinking cap -- and no cheating.
-
On a
traffic light, is the green on the top or bottom?
-
What
two numbers on the telephone dial don't have letters on
them?
-
Whose face is on a dime?
-
How
many sides are on a standard pencil?
-
On
the American flag, is the top stripe red or white?
-
On
the back of a $1 bill, what is in the center?
Watch
for answers next time! |
-
Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you
down.
-
Keep learning. Learn more about computers, crafts,
gardening, whatever. Never let your brain go idle.
-
Laugh often, long and hard.
-
Cherish your health. If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond
what you can improve, get help!
-
Surround yourself with the people and things that you
love, whether it is your friends and family, or your
pets, hobbies and keepsakes.
-
Don't take guilt trips. They pull you down and
waste your time.
-
At every opportunity, tell the people you love that you
love them!
