A joyful breakfast was had by all at our 31st Annual Bridging Generations. Our keynote speaker, Ernest Hooper of the Tampa Bay Times, sparkled guests with his heartfelt tribute to his grandmother and what she meant to him. And the whole room was enchanted when he said that as a result of her inspiration, “I want to be a Senior in Service!”

Foster Grandparent Volunteer Kathy Nosworthy added a comedic tone to her speech when she donned her Halloween costume. Emcee Trevor Pettiford from BayNews9 encouraged the whole room to join him in a rousing “Happy Birthday, Kathy!” She was on her way to her volunteer classroom right after her speech, and she told us how excited the students were about her birthday.

Senior Companion volunteer Asleen Griffin touched all our hearts with her tale of her client, who was robbed by a stroke many years ago of his ability to speak and read. Her patient and loving companionship has brought him back out of loneliness and frustration. He is speaking in full sentences again, and he reads primers that Asleen found online with the help of her granddaughter. Our volunteers truly Bridge Generations in so many ways!
