Critter Adoption & Rescure Effort (C.A.R.E.)1528 27th St. SE, Ruskin, FL, 33570 Critter Adoption and Rescue Effort, Inc (C.A.R.E.) is a 501 C 3 non-profit volunteer organization, Incorporated under the laws of the State of Florida in 2000. It was founded to rescue, provide shelter and medical care, and facilitate the adoption of neglected, abused, and unwanted dogs and cats. Many dedicated volunteers round out our organization by helping with everything from cleaning kennels, to building and grounds maintenance, working in the office, walking dogs, socializing cats, and anything else they can do to ensure C.A.R.E. operates efficiently and effectively. For the most part, C.A.R.E. needs additional volunteers in three areas: office work, Dog Handlers, and Cat Handlers. Following are descriptions of these volunteer positions:Return to Home Page

Office Worker Dog Handler Cat Handler
Office Worker Work Location: 1528 27th St SE, Ruskin, FL 33570Purpose: The office worker is usually the first person a visitor sees and speaks with on the phone. If experienced, the office worker may be asked to do computer work.Responsibilities and Duties: Answer the phone. Check email several times per day. Get pet food from the storage area for distribution to those who are in need, registered, and financially challenged. If previously experienced in Word and Excel, the Office Worker may be asked to do computer related work.Qualifications: Must be a “people person.” Must be able to easily lift and handle 25 pounds. Commitment Expected: At least five hours a week.Training: Volunteers are expected to be knowledgeable of and in compliance with the C.A.R.E. Volunteer Handbook. Additional, on job training will start on day one and will continue until the volunteer is judged ready to work without coaching. Dog Handler Work Location: 1528 27th St SE, Ruskin, FL 33570Purpose: Dog Handlers deal directly with the dogs at C.A.R.E. and their welfare. Dog Handlers also help to ensure that potential adopters are good fits for the dog being considered for adoption. Responsibilities: Playing with walking, feeding, and cleaning up after the dogs at care. Dog Handlers will also be working with people who want to adopt, making sure that the dog has the best chance of going to a good permanent home.Qualifications: Volunteers: • Must be over 16 • Must love dogs and also be a people person • Must be willing to perform all chores associated with dog handling. • Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds and be able to handle a 100 pound, active dog on a leash. • Must present a friendly face to the visiting public. • Must agree to abide by the guidelines for dog Handlers.Commitment Expected : At least four hours a week, more is good Training: All Training is on the job and starts on the first day and continues for about 30 days. Cat Handler Work Location: 1528 27th St SE, Ruskin, FL 33570Purpose: Cat Handlers deal directly with the cats at C.A.R.E. and their welfare. Cat Handlers also help to ensure that potential adopters are good fits for the cat being considered for adoption.Responsibilities: Keeping the areas, including the litter boxes clean. Feed and water the cats. Wash hands frequently when moving from one area to another. Assist in the adoption process. Turn air conditioning and lights on or off as needed.Qualifications: • Must be over 16 • Must love cats and also be a people person. • Must be willing to perform all chores associated with cat handling. • Must present a friendly face to the visiting public. • Must agree to abide by the guidelines for Cat Handlers.Commitment Expected: At least four hours a week, more is goodTraining: All Training is on the job and starts on the first day and continues for about 30 days.
