The Florida State Fair would not be possible without the hard work of its volunteers. The fair is much more than bright lights, midway rides, and fun food. It is a 12-day, statewide tradition that draws a crowd of approximately 500,000 people each year. The fair depends on the can-do, eager attitude of our volunteers to make amazing experiences year after year.
We are currently seeking energetic and enthusiastic volunteers for the fair in all kinds of areas. If you are over the age of sixteen with a guardian, or over the age of eighteen, and you’d like to participate, scroll down and examine the volunteer positions. Department: Agribusiness Program
Description of role: Assist the Youth Livestock Exhibitors with checking into the Skilathon & Record Book Skills Testing.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Assist the students before the Skilathon & Record Book Testing.
• Make sure the students sign in and sign out before and after.
• Distribute and collect the test papers for each student.
• Must wear Florida State Fair Volunteer tee shirt while on duty.
• Follow all Florida State Fair health and safety protocols.
Skills & Experience: Volunteers need to be kid friendly and willing to work with children to make the check-in and check-out process run smoothly. Need some organizational skills
Training: All Florida State Fair Volunteers are required to attend an online volunteer orientation. Volunteers without access to a computer will be invited to an in-person orientation. All volunteers will be instructed on what needs to be done once they arrive to the testing site.
Time Commitment: most testing will run for 4 hours and different times during the fair.
Age Requirement: Minimum age is 16 years old with guardian.
Support: Advisors will be available during all Skilathons.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions: Volunteers will sit behind a table and assist students when they arrive for testing.

Department: Agribusiness Program
Description of role: The Florida State Fair maintains a rich tradition of Competitive Livestock Shows including the 4H and FFA Champion of Champions Youth Competition. All types of livestock are judged and exhibited during the Florida State Fair including numerous & exciting Equestrian events.
Primary Responsibilities: Assist with activities in the TECO Arena, and with the flow of traffic in the cattle and livestock barns
• Must be willing to work around animals.
• Experience with animals is a plus.
• Volunteers must wear appropriate footwear (boots or closed-toed shoes required).
• Volunteers must wear long pants (jeans preferred)
• Volunteers must be Age 18 or older.
• Must wear Florida State Fair Volunteer tee shirt while on duty.
• Follow all Florida State Fair health and safety protocols.
Skills & Experience: Volunteers should be friendly and able to talk to the fair-goers to instruct where they can and cannot walk. Volunteers should enjoy being around the animals and kids.
Training: All Florida State Fair Volunteers are required to attend an online volunteer orientation. Volunteers without access to a computer will be invited to an in-person orientation. Volunteers will be instructed when they arrive to the fair and are placed in the livestock barns.
Time Commitment: 4 hour shifts (morning and afternoon)
Age Requirement: Volunteers must be Age 18 or older
Support: Contact barn team if an issue arises
Physical Demands/Working Conditions: Volunteers will sit/stand in a designated area and direct fair-goers to the proper isles they can walk down. We have areas where the cattle will cross so we make sure the fair-goers are back to let the animals pass. Volunteers will be sitting or standing in the livestock area.

Department: Creative Living
Description of role: Works directly with judges and assists in keeping paperwork organized; assists with time management. Helps judge to understand the rules of the contest.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Keeping judging sheets and tallies organized
• Assisting with moving and organizing entries for judging
• Assisting in the recording of feedback sheets
• Assisting the judges by ensuring their job goes smoothly
• Must wear Florida State Fair Volunteer tee shirt while on duty.

Secondary Responsibilities: Ensures that judges have water and snacks
Skills & Experience: Must have neat handwriting and math skills. Organization skills a plus.
Training: All Florida State Fair Volunteers are required to attend an online volunteer orientation.
Time Commitment:
Dates and times will be available by January and at volunteer training
Arts & Crafts: Flexible (usually begins a week or two before the Fair opens)
Horticulture: Flexible (usually begins a week or two before the Fair opens)
Preferred that you work the entire time each day. Schedules will depend on when the judges are available.

Description of role: Assist exhibitor in the delivery of their items and ensuring their work is ready for judging.
Primary Responsibilities: Assist with check-in of exhibit competitors. Must wear Florida State Fair Volunteer tee shirt while on duty. Please remember to wear comfortable shoes. Follow all Florida State Fair health and safety protocols. Assist in a variety of Entry Check-in Jobs:
• Intake Clerks: Greet exhibitor and review their application and receive their entries.
• Table Specialist: Usually a person that has specific knowledge of a certain department (ie: Quilts or Photography). They make sure that the work is organized and ready for judging.
• Runners: These volunteers move entries from the intake tables to the tables in the building where the individual judging will take place.
Secondary Responsibilities: Organized and comfortable following directions
Skills & Experience: Friendly and a team player, patient with exhibits, careful handling arts and crafts items
Training: All Florida State Fair Volunteers are required to attend an online volunteer orientation. Volunteers without access to a computer will be invited to an in-person orientation. Creative Living staff will provide additional training prior to event and will continue to remind volunteers of the process.
Time Commitment: Pre-Fair: Preferred that you work the entire time each day but flexible. Dates and times will be available by January and at volunteer training.
Arts & Crafts Intake: (usually begins a week or two before the Fair opens)

Support: This job is a very important job as the handling of our exhibitors’ items is essential to our being successful. Creative Living Staff will be there to answer questions and help you in any way.

• Intake Clerks: Sitting mostly, but will need to be able to lift and carry items to tables
• Table Specialist: Mostly standing and moving and organizing items
• Runners: Is a bit more physical and requires a lot of walking and some lifting.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Set up TVs on the wall
• Assist with repairs and paint
• Must have a good eye for arranging artwork on a wall
• Other duties as assigned

Skills & Experience: Background in construction (including painting) or IT, electrical knowledge a plus.

Support: Florida Center Staff will provide the proper tools for the job. Volunteers must have prior knowledge & proficiency in the safe operation of construction tools & ladders.

Description of role:
Provide digital pictures of volunteers.
Provide downloadable photographs to Volunteer Coordinator (via email or thumb drive). Must wear Florida State Fair Volunteer tee shirt while on duty.
Primary Responsibilities: Take digital pictures of volunteers providing support to Fair patrons. Digitally send photographs to Volunteer Coordinator on a daily basis. Follow all Florida State Fair health and safety protocols.
Skills & Experience: Must be outgoing, friendly and polite. Must own a camera or phone that takes high-quality, digital pictures.
Training: All Florida State Fair Volunteers are required to attend an online volunteer orientation. Volunteers without access to a computer will be invited to an in-person orientation.
Time Commitment: 4 hours per shift.
Age Requirement: Minimum 16 years with guardian supervision
Support: The Volunteer Office will provide maps, special promotion maps, guest services information book, and position summaries. Fair Photographers are to contact the Volunteer Office for support when needed. The Volunteer Office will set the volunteer schedule.
