Keynote Speaker Colonel DJ Reyes knows from a lifetime of experience that service to others is life-changing. Colonel Reyes served over 33 years in the US military, including deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, North Africa, Kosovo, Bosnia, Haiti, and Korea. He’s a national advocate for veteran’s rights and services involving veterans in the criminal justice system, including mentoring veterans who deserve a second chance. Concurrently, Colonel Reyes is collaborating with the US Attorney’s Office, the US Federal Defender, and the Chief Judge for the Middle District of Florida to establish a federal level Veteran Treatment Court and Veteran Mentors Program.
He has been honored through multiple local, state and national awards for his service including Notre Dame’s Reverend Corby Award for Distinguished Military Service, Florida Veterans Hall of Fame, Volunteer Florida’s “Champion of Service” Award, and Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hero Award. Some would say he’s an “EXPERT” in service.
Come Meet Iconic News Anchor Al Ruechel!
Breaking news: Iconic News Anchor Al Ruechel will emcee our 40th Anniversary Bridging Generations Dinner, a fitting selection considering he’s been a valued leader in our community nearly as long as Seniors in Service. With a career spanning nearly four decades in Tampa Bay, Al Ruechel is a familiar face from Channel 10 and Bay News 9. His extensive experience includes coverage of presidential elections, space missions, and live weather news.
This seasoned journalist has earned four Emmy Awards and over 20 other accolades for his top-notch reporting on Desert Storm, the Shuttle program, and live coverage of breaking weather news. His non-partisan style and straight-forward approach have made his political show “Political Connections” a hit among viewers and politicians.
Al Ruechel’s heart for serving others is what sets him apart. His volunteer work on various charity boards, 16 years of coaching youth soccer, and over 35 years of leading worship at his church demonstrate his commitment to the community. Even in retirement, Al continues to uplift Tampa Bay, making him a perfect fit for our mission. He gets it!
You saw him weekdays on the news, bringing his warm, familiar smile to your screens, and now is your chance to see him in person!
Right now, in Tampa Bay, discouraged children give up on learning, veterans face homelessness, seniors are more isolated than ever, and parents struggle to feed their families.
Our volunteers are the solution!
Every day lives are changed. With your help, we can do more! Your support will provide a tutor for struggling students, a friend for lonely seniors, resources for veterans, and meals for hungry families.
