SUMMARY:31st Annual Bridging Generations Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:A joyful breakfast was had by all at our 31st Annual Bridging Generations. Our keynote speaker\, Ernest Hooper of the Tampa Bay Times\, sparkled guests with his heartfelt tribute to his grandmother and what she meant to him. And the whole room was enchanted when he said that as a result of her inspiration\, “I want to be a Senior in Service!” \nFoster Grandparent Volunteer Kathy Nosworthy added a comedic tone to her speech when she donned her Halloween costume. Emcee Trevor Pettiford from BayNews9 encouraged the whole room to join him in a rousing “Happy Birthday\, Kathy!” She was on her way to her volunteer classroom right after her speech\, and she told us how excited the students were about her birthday. \nSenior Companion volunteer Asleen Griffin touched all our hearts with her tale of her client\, who was robbed by a stroke many years ago of his ability to speak and read. Her patient and loving companionship has brought him back out of loneliness and frustration. He is speaking in full sentences again\, and he reads primers that Asleen found online with the help of her granddaughter. Our volunteers truly Bridge Generations in so many ways! \nOur sincere thanks to our 31st Annual Bridging Generations Breakfast Sponsors and Donors: \nHumanitarian Sponsor:\nDonald W. SUMMARY:Third Annual Pinellas Bridging Generations Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:Pinellas County business leaders gathered to celebrate and learn more about the mission of Seniors in Service in Pinellas County. Keynote speaker City of Largo Commissioner Samantha Fenger delivered a moving speech about the good that Seniors in Service provides in the community through its Foster Grandparent Program. She offered her enthusiastic support in helping launch the Senior Companion Program. \nSenior Companion Volunteer Wilbur Wiggins had the whole room chuckling with his dry sense of humor as he told anecdotes from his volunteer experiences. Mr. Wiggins exemplifies the spirit of generous volunteerism in his willingness and humorous approach. When his client told him that he didn’t feel comfortable having Mr. Wiggins come to his home without paying him\, Mr. Wiggins said\, “I’ll have to come on my spare time then.” And when another client expressed reservations about getting the support\, Mr. Wiggins said\, “I’m not a volunteer; I’m a friend.” \nFoster Grandparent Volunteer Janice Baxley was nervous about speaking in front of so many people\, but she spoke from the heart about what a privilege it is to help children in the classroom. She sees their progress and knows that she is a part of it. Her students love her for it as did luncheon guests. \nThank you to everyone who so generously gave your time and donations to honor the mission of Seniors in Service: “to engage people in volunteerism\, particularly those ages 55+\, to help children succeed and elders remain independent by recruiting and training devoted and skillful volunteers.” We are truly bridging generations. \nOur sincere thanks to our 2015 Bridging Generations Sponsors and Donors: \nSilver Sponsors:\nDex Imaging (Tammie Brewer)\nGina Space\nMark Hall\nSusan Boyd \nGold Donors:\nMark Ingles\nPeggy LeClerc\nSusan Boyd\nTammy Criollo \nSilver Donors:\nJacob Hardin\nLupe Proctor \nBronze Donors:\nBlaire Dempsey\nTara Geiger \nGrand Prize Raffle Donor:\nInternational Diamond Center for donating a stunning 14k white gold bangle bracelet containing approximately ½ CTW of baguette diamonds. \n  \nEvent Photos\n[Best_Wordpress_Gallery id=”2″ gal_title=”Third Annual Pinellas Bridging Generations Luncheon 2015″]
