Classroom Grandparents Show Up for Mayor Jane Castor

Classroom Grandparents proudly showed their support for Mayor Jane Castor and the City of Tampa during the City’s Oath of Office Ceremony. Volunteers serving through the Classroom Companions initiative gathered to celebrate a shared commitment to students, education, and community impact. Their presence highlighted the powerful role Classroom Grandparents play in supporting children through mentorship, encouragement, and one-on-one literacy support in Tampa schools.
Volunteers from the Classroom Grandparent Program joined community leaders, supporters, and city officials at the City of Tampa’s Oath of Office Ceremony to congratulate Mayor Jane Castor and Tampa City Council members. As part of the Mayor’s Classroom Companions initiative, these dedicated volunteers serve in select Tampa schools, helping students strengthen literacy skills, build confidence, and feel supported in the classroom.
The ceremony was also an opportunity to celebrate the strong partnership between the City of Tampa and Seniors in Service, which continues to create meaningful support systems for local students and teachers. Classroom Grandparents provide encouragement, mentorship, and one-on-one attention that helps children feel seen, valued, and ready to learn.
And yes — those special Classroom Companion t-shirts gifted by Mayor Castor looked amazing on our volunteers!
