Mary & Martha House is a private non-profit, tax exempt corporation. Founded in 1982, Mary & Martha House has been helping women and families escape domestic violence & homelessness for 35 years.

Mary & Martha House provides individualized case management for each woman to identify personal barriers and overcome them.

Mary & Martha House is not a one-size-fits-all or group program. Each client receives individual counseling services to help her conquer her unique struggles.

MISSION: To provide emergency and transitional housing and support services to abused and homeless women and their dependent children so that they will gain employment and successfully transition to permanent housing.

Receptionist

Location: 312 S U.S. Hwy 41, Ruskin, FL, 33570. Work cannot be done remotely, must be in-person. We do have HART line bus stops at our location.

Purpose of the Position:
 The purpose of this position is to create a welcoming voice/face for our guests that visit the office, and help coordinate administrative tasks to ensure a smooth operation. Your efforts will assist in ensuring we are running the organization to the best of our ability to continue to provide shelter and services to those suffering from domestic violence and homelessness.

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Answering phone calls to the main desk, and for donation pickups
• Using Microsoft Excel to track and schedule donation pickups
• Greeting individuals that are entering the office
• Performing minor administrative duties such as filling envelopes, making copies, sending emails, etc.
• Additional administrative duties assigned by management

Qualifications:
The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Customer service experience
• Must have reliable transportation
• Must have flexible availability Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm
• Ability to read, write and speak English (multi-lingual a plus)
• Ability to understand, follow and give written and oral instructions
• Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees and guests
• Follow all company policies and procedures
• Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional
• Speak with others using clear and professional language
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others
• Attention to detail: working carefully within the minimum time
• Ability to work indoors, at a desk, sitting for 6+ hours a day

Commitment Expected: There are no commitment requirements. Ideally we would like someone five days a week on a normal schedule from 8am-430pm. If the volunteer can only work one or two days a week, that is quite alright.

Training: One-on-one training will be provided by a staff member. Training should take about a day, working hand-in-hand with the staff member until the volunteer feels comfortable enough to be on their own. Training will consist of answering phones politely, working with Microsoft Excel (minimally), and transferring calls or taking messages.

Store Sales Associate

Location: 312 S U.S. Hwy 41, Ruskin, FL, 33570. Work cannot be done remotely, must be in-person. We do have HART line bus stops at our location.

Purpose of the Position: The purpose of this position is to assist our thrift store in daily operations so we can provide the best customer experience while shopping. 100% of the revenue generated goes to our mission of providing shelter and services to those suffering from domestic violence and homelessness.

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Greeting customers upon entry, conversing as needed
• Using POS to check out customers and collect payment
• Helping customers with any questions, and promoting sales of the day
• Performing minor housekeeping duties such as sweeping, dusting, etc.
• Additional store duties assigned by management

Qualifications:
The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Must have flexible availability Tuesday – Saturday, 9am-4pm
• Ability to read, write and speak English (multi-lingual a plus)
• Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees and guests
• Follow all company policies and procedures
• Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional
• Speak with others using clear and professional language
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others
• Attention to detail: working carefully within the minimum time
• Ability to work indoors, in a store, moving around for 4+ hours a day

Training: One-on-one training will be provided by a staff member. Training should take about a day, working hand-in-hand with the staff member until the volunteer feels comfortable enough to be on their own. Training consists of greeting and talking to customers, learning how to ring the customers up on our computers, keeping an eye on inventory levels in the store, and making sure the store is tidy and free of hazards.
