There are many service opportunities throughout Pinellas County to use your talents to improve the lives of others.

Bereavement Volunteer Program

Make bereavement support phone calls or in-person visits as directed by bereavement staff. Phone calls can be made from a volunteer’s home.

Communicate with patients and families to provide reassurance, learn of additional needs and be a listening ear. Daytime and evening opportunities are available. Some opportunities to place calls from home.

Training: Additional eight-hour

 

Children's Community Programs

Support ill children and their caregivers and siblings. Provide tutoring to children or their siblings, companionship to children so their caregivers can take a break, and Reiki. Deliver food or supplies to families and assist during Family Fun Nights and other special events.

 

Community Counseling Assistance

Assist and participate with retreats and support groups for children and adults including helping the counselors with set-up and special activities

 

Palliative Arts

Patient and Family Support volunteers:

Aromatherapy –Aromatherapy training required.

Reiki –. Reiki training offered for Patient and Family Support and Bereavement Support volunteers.

Licensed Massage Therapy

Music – Musicians may perform for patients or share musical interests with patients via music CDs or iPods.

Caring Touch –Caring Touch training required.

 

Community Counseling

Assist and participate with retreats and support groups for children and adults including helping the counselors with set-up and special activities

 

Suncoast PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care)

Participants’ Homes – Support participants in their homes. Provide companionship, caregiver respite, errand running, transportation, pack/organize home, facilitate life review, and provide spiritual support.

 

Delivery Drivers

Be a friendly face delivering supplies to patients at their homes, assisted living facilities or nursing homes. Routes begin from central Pinellas County and are directed back to a volunteer’s home or location of choice.

Scheduling: A commitment of a two to three-hour shift per week is requested. Bi-monthly and monthly opportunities are also available. Daytime, afternoon, evening, and weekend times are available. The largest needs are evenings and weekends.

Training: Driver Orientation is required after completion of Patient and Family Support Training.

 

Resale Shops

Assist as a cashier, accept/handle donations at doors, sort or price merchandise, create displays or test small equipment, and many other small retail/resale duties, etc.

EPIC (Empath Partners in Care)

Make life healthier and brighter for our clients, including children, families, and others who are impacted by HIV/AIDS and in need of care, compassion, and support.

Suncoast PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly)

Socialize or help lead activities (sewing, knitting, art, music, games, discussion, writing, gardening etc.) with participants at the Suncoast PACE Day Center. Volunteers can also provide Reiki at the PACE Reiki Clinic

Additional Training: Two-hour PACE Orientation following Volunteer Orientation

Assist maintenance and/or DME technicians with functions.  Perform pressure washing, painting, carpet cleaning, meeting room set-up, and light maintenance or carpentry tasks.

Suncoast Hospice Home Care Teams

Provide support to patients and families in their homes.

Provide support to patients and families who reside in nursing homes or assisted living facilities.

Training: Additional two-hour PACE Orientation is required after Volunteer Orientation and Patient and Family Support Training.

Veterans Serving Veterans

As a Veteran Serving Veteran volunteer, you will extend the hand of friendship to military veterans with serious illness and those nearing the end of life. Visit military veteran patients, take part in special pinning ceremonies, present appreciation certificates, share holiday events or help interview veterans who share life and military.

Legacy Corps

Legacy Corps supports family caregivers of veteran and military families. Help support caregivers and make a difference in the lives of hardworking families that have served our nation.
Includes: One-year service commitment of 8-10 hours a week.

Receive: An education award, living allowance and make an impact in the lives of veterans and their families
