This fifth annual fundraising event will be a celebration of the forward progress for our schools. The event will feature Pinellas County Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Grego. Additionally, the event will include our volunteers, who will share their experiences of volunteering in the schools with our Foster Grandparent Program.
“Before 3rd grade, children learn to read. After 3rd grade, they read to learn.” Discover how our Foster Grandparent Volunteers can be the difference in a child learning to read by that 3rd grade deadline.
Dr. Michael Grego
Superintendent of Pinellas County Schools
While Pinellas County Schools has been embroiled in an investigative article series by the local newspaper, Dr. Grego has been a beacon of change and innovation for the embattled school district. Dr. Grego has aggressively worked to eliminate achievement gaps in Pinellas County Schools. In 2013, the district implemented the Bridging the Gap strategic plan aimed at boosting achievement, increasing graduation rates and improving student engagement for African American students. In 2014, Pinellas County Schools initiated Scale Up for Success, a program focused on increasing achievement at several St. Petersburg schools. In 2016, the district established a Transformation Zone with intense support for lower performing schools.
